Welcome to the Obduction Wiki, a free, collaborative resource dedicated to the video game Obduction, developed and published by Cyan, Inc. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you visit, read, or contribute to the wiki.

Because this is a collaborative, public wiki run on MediaWiki software, certain information about your edits is recorded permanently to maintain accountability and the integrity of the site's history.

Public Contributions and Permanence

The Obduction Wiki is a public platform. Any text, images, or media you contribute to the wiki are publicly visible.

• Permanent History: Every page has a public "History" tab that permanently records all changes made to it. Even if your contribution is later edited, altered, or deleted by another user, the original text and attribution will remain in the page’s history logs.
• Private Information: Please do not post personal or sensitive information about yourself or others on the wiki pages.

Edit Attribution (Anonymous vs. Logged-in Users)

To maintain the integrity of the encyclopedia, all edits must be attributed to the person who made them. How this attribution happens depends on whether you have created an account.

• Anonymous (Unregistered) Users: If you edit a page without logging into an account, your exact IP (Internet Protocol) address is permanently recorded and publicly displayed in the page history as the author of that edit.
• Logged-In Users: If you create an account and log in, your edits are publicly attributed to your chosen Username, and your IP address is hidden from public view.
• Internal Security Logs: Even when you are logged in, the wiki software temporarily stores your IP address internally for a short period to protect the wiki from spam, vandalism, and abuse. This internal data is only accessible to authorized site administrators.

Account Information

If you choose to create an account, we collect the following:

• Username and Password: Required to create the account. Your password is encrypted.
• Email Address (Optional): You may optionally provide an email address. Your email address is kept private and is not publicly visible. It is used only for password resets, watchlist notifications, and (if you enable it) allowing other users to contact you via the site's built-in email tool without revealing your address to them.

Device Information and Mobile Browsing

To provide the best reading experience, our site uses the MobileFrontend extension.

• Device Detection: When you access the wiki, our servers automatically check your browser's "User-Agent" string (which identifies your operating system and browser type) to determine whether to serve you the desktop or mobile-optimized version of the site.

Cookies and Local Storage

The Obduction Wiki uses temporary and persistent cookies strictly for site functionality. We do not use cookies to track you across the wider web or for advertising.

• Session Cookies: When you log in, a temporary cookie is set to keep you logged in while you browse. It is deleted when you close your browser.
• Login Preference: If you select "Keep me logged in," a cookie will be stored for up to 30 days to remember your account.
• View Preferences: If you manually switch between the "Desktop" and "Mobile" views using the links at the bottom of the page, a functional cookie is stored on your device to remember this layout preference for your future visits.

Server Logs

Like most websites, our web servers automatically collect basic access logs. This includes your IP address, browser type, referring site, and the date and time of your request. These logs are routinely purged after a short period.
